Taiwan may add Bitcoin to its National Reserves

The Taiwanese parliament calls on the government to audit the amount of Bitcoin held and consider adding this cryptocurrency to the strategic reserves to reduce dependence on the USD.

Prime Minister Cho Jung-tai committed to releasing a detailed report before the end of 2025. Legislator Ju-Chun Ko ( warned that more than 90% of Taiwan's total foreign exchange reserves of 602.94 billion USD are held in USD, making the country vulnerable to currency fluctuations.

He proposed to hold onto the seized Bitcoin, worth about 146 million USD, as a strategic reserve asset instead of selling it. The government stated that it would assess the possibility of integrating digital assets into the national reserve system. This move comes amidst the backdrop of the U.S. and several states, such as Texas and Arizona, promoting plans to reserve Bitcoin, reflecting a global trend towards digital assets.
