PANews, September 25 news, reported by Blockworks, Honeycomb Protocol has acquired GameShift from Solana Labs, combining two complementary tech stacks to drive Web3 gaming into the mainstream consumer market. The terms of the deal have not been disclosed. GameShift was originally developed in-house by Solana Labs and aims to simplify the process of adding Web3 elements to games, allowing game studios to operate without relying on specialized blockchain engineers. The merged platform will combine developer tools with a Web3 user experience, aiming to solve the challenges of issuance, monetization, and usability that hinder the widespread adoption of Web3 gaming. Its plan is to create GameShift as a “consumer entry point,” lowering the barriers to entry for non-crypto gamers through gas-free wallets and seamless transactions, while leveraging Honeycomb's SDK to provide underlying game logic and high-performance compression technology, significantly reducing on-chain costs.
