South Korea will investigate the fee situation of local encryption exchanges to fulfill President Lee Jae-myung's previous promise.

According to Gate News bot, the Pioneer Economic Daily reported on June 19 that the Financial Services Commission (FSC) of South Korea will investigate the trading fees charged by domestic trading platforms and review potential intervention measures.

This move is part of South Korea’s newly elected President Lee Jae-myung’s broader agenda of support for cryptocurrencies. It has been reported that Lee Jae-myung promised to reduce cryptocurrency transaction volumes during his presidential campaign to support young traders.

As part of the investigation, the FSC plans to investigate the current fee system, charging methods, and fee amounts of cryptocurrency exchanges.

FSC announced the plan to investigate the transaction fees of cryptocurrency exchanges at the policy release meeting of the State Planning Committee (the presidential handover team of Lee Jae-myung’s government).

According to reports, a South Korean Financial Supervisory Service official stated: “We need to examine whether the current transaction fees of domestic exchanges impose a heavy burden on consumers, and whether the fees are at a reasonable level compared to overseas.”

FSC also stated that the agency has not set a target commission rate and plans to formulate policy standards based on a comparative analysis of domestic and foreign exchanges and user preferences.
