Just realized a lot of people are confused about updating their SASSA details, especially the SRD banking details update process. So here's what I've learned going through this myself. If you're getting permanent grants like old age or disability, you basically have to go in person to your local SASSA office. No way around it. You need your original ID, a recent bank statement (less than 3 months old), and you'll fill out their payment method change form. They send it to the bank and it takes about 3 weeks to process. The key thing is submitting before the 15th of the month if you want it to take effect next month. For the SRD grant though, it's way different. Everything's online which is actually pretty convenient. You go to the official SRD website, enter your ID number, and they send you a secure link via SMS. That's where you update your banking details. Make sure the account is only in your name though, no joint accounts. Takes a few days to a couple weeks for the bank verification. Changing your phone number is also important since that's how they send you the verification codes and payment notifications. Same deal with SRD, you use their contact portal, enter your new number, get an OTP sent to confirm it. If the online thing doesn't work, just call the helpline at 0800 60 10 11 or visit an office. Honestly the online SRD process is smoother than the permanent grant stuff, but either way just make sure you're using the official SASSA channels. There's fake websites out there trying to scam people, so be careful with that.
