Experts Back Single-Company Merger of Korea's Five Power Generators

Experts are advocating for the merger of South Korea’s five state-run power generation companies into a single entity with three divisions to stabilize the energy transition and enhance public interest in the energy sector. A survey indicates that 73.5% of employees at these five power generators support a single-company merger. The proposal aims to address inefficiencies and a decline in the public-sector electricity output’s impact on GDP that resulted from the 2001 split of Korea Electric Power Corp.'s generation arm.
