After canceling the electric vehicle project, Sony Honda Mobility will scale back operations and seek new business directions.

On April 21, Sony, Honda, and their joint venture Sony Honda Mobility announced that they have reached an agreement on the future business direction and market positioning of Sony Honda Mobility. The statement said that under the current framework, it is difficult to find ways to bring products and services that align with the founding purpose of Sony Honda Mobility to market in the short to medium term. Based on this, the three companies have decided to temporarily review the existing structure of Sony Honda Mobility and scale back its operations. According to this decision, in principle, Sony Honda Mobility employees will be reassigned to the parent company and related entities, with specific allocations taking employees’ personal preferences into full consideration. The statement indicated that, in light of the constantly changing business environment, the three companies will continue to explore the best cooperation models, striving to bring new value to user experience through software. Previously, Honda announced on March 12 that it would reassess its electrification strategy for automobiles, and on March 25, Sony, Honda, and Sony Honda Mobility announced the suspension of research and development as well as the launch of their first AFEELA model, AFEELA 1, and a second model.
