Japan considers releasing strategic oil reserves to address the disruption of Hormuz Strait transportation

If the Strait of Hormuz oil transportation is interrupted, the 14 million barrels of oil originally destined for Japan are currently stranded in the Middle Eastern Gulf. Faced with concerns from refining companies, the Japanese government is considering unilaterally releasing strategic petroleum reserves (SPR), while urgently exploring alternative routes for transshipment via Yanbu Port (Saudi Arabia) and Fujairah Port (UAE).
