German energy company RWE plans to invest heavily in the U.S. over the next five years in a bid to grow earnings and shareholder returns.

RWE said Thursday that it will invest 35 billion euros ($40.49 billion) through to 2031, with almost half of this spent on U.S. power generation.

The 17 billion euros earmarked for the U.S. will be spent on wind and solar power plants, battery-storage facilities, and flexible generation assets. Its installed capacity in the country will rise to 22 gigawatts by 2031 from 13 gigawatts presently.

The updated plan came as the company reported its results for 2025.

RWE said it hopes the investments will drive average adjusted earnings per share growth of 12% a year through 2031. It expects adjusted earnings per share will rise to 4.40 euros, from the 2.48 euros it reported Thursday alongside its 2025 results.

Higher earnings should push dividends higher, with the company targeting 10% growth a year from the 1.20 euros a share it reported for 2025.

For 2025, RWE said it reached the upper end of its guidance, with adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization of 5.1 billion euros and an adjusted net income of 1.8 billion euros.
