Perplexity version "Little Lobster" launched, an all-weather AI butler based on Apple Mac mini
IT Home March 12 News, Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas posted on X platform yesterday (March 11), announcing the launch of the Personal Computer Cloud AI Assistant service. It relies on a continuously running Apple Mac mini, seamlessly integrating users’ local files, applications, and cloud AI to provide 24/7 dedicated intelligent support.
In terms of operation, this service is similar to the “OpenClaw” solution, mainly relying on a continuously running Apple Mac mini, deeply integrating users’ local applications with Perplexity AI in the cloud to create a “local + cloud” collaborative working model. This AI assistant can stay on standby 24/7, ready to handle complex tasks and take over workflows at any time.
Unlike traditional “command-execute” AI, the core logic of Personal Computer is to act as an “AI project manager.” Users do not need to issue detailed instructions to multiple AIs; they only need to specify the desired final outcome.
After receiving the goal, the system automatically breaks down complex tasks into multiple sub-tasks and delegates them to different “sub-agents” for execution.
In extreme cases, this “AI project manager” can even write software code on its own to complete specific tasks, ultimately presenting the aggregated results directly to the user.
For example, in image processing: if a user has a photo folder on their desktop and wants to publish it on a website, the AI can automatically analyze the image content, rename files according to specific rules, and crop them to suitable sizes for web display—all without user intervention. Additionally, users do not need to directly operate the Mac mini; they can remotely control this local AI system via the internet.
Regarding data security, Srinivas emphasized the system’s security boundaries. While the Personal Computer client runs continuously on the Mac locally, heavy AI computations are still performed on Perplexity’s “secure servers.”
To prevent AI misuse of permissions, the system requires all commands involving sensitive operations to be re-authorized by the user. All AI operation records are stored by the system, which is equipped with a “kill switch” to handle emergencies.
