The Security Council did not pass the resolution submitted by Russia concerning Iran
People’s Financial News, March 12 — On the afternoon of March 11 local time (early morning of March 12 Beijing time), the United Nations Security Council failed to pass a draft resolution submitted by Russia aimed at urging an end to conflicts in the Middle East. The resolution received 4 votes in favor, 2 against, and 9 abstentions. Russia, China, Pakistan, and Somalia voted in favor; the United States and Latvia voted against. The draft resolution expressed condolences for the “tragic loss of life” caused by ongoing hostilities in the Middle East, called for all parties to immediately cease military actions, and avoid further escalation in the region and beyond. It condemned all attacks targeting civilians and civilian objects, called for the protection of these targets in accordance with international humanitarian law, and emphasized the importance of ensuring the security of all countries in the region. The draft resolution also called on all parties to “return to the negotiating table without further delay” and to fully utilize political and diplomatic means to resolve the crisis. (CCTV News)
