Eden Care, a digital health insurance startup, has become the first Rwandan startup to join Y-Combinator, the highly-acclaimed accelerator program. Eden Care will join the 2023 Y-Commbinator summer batch (YC S23).
Eden Care designs, underwrites, distributes, and manages group health insurance plans in Africa. The startup helps employers provide affordable and convenient health insurance plans for employees with minimal administrative burden.
Furthermore, Eden Care provides covered employees with a mobile app that helps them seamlessly navigate and engage with healthcare providers within its network with minimal waiting times.
“Being accepted into Y-Combinator is an extraordinary validation of the hard work and dedication our team has invested in our vision and to be part of changing the narrative on start-ups in Africa” said Moses Mukundi, Founder and CEO of Eden Care. “We are excited to utilize this opportunity to further optimize our technology and accelerate our mission of revolutionizing health insurance across Africa.”
Eden Care was founded in 2021 and is backed by the two largest reinsurers in Africa – Zep RE and Africa RE. Additionally the startup raised pre-seed funding in 2022.
“Being accepted into Y-Combinator will be the catalytic force that fuels our growth, enabling us to revolutionize digital health insurance in Rwanda and beyond. It’s not just about securing investment; it’s about tapping into a wellspring of unparalleled knowledge, global connections, and the collective wisdom of an entrepreneurial community committed to redefining what’s possible,” added Tshepo Machele, Chief Growth Officer at Eden Care.
