Eden Care Becomes the First Rwandan Startup to be Accepted into Y-Combinator

Eden Care, a digital health insurance startup, has become the first Rwandan startup to join Y-Combinator, the highly-acclaimed accelerator program. Eden Care will join the 2023 Y-Commbinator summer batch (YC S23).

Eden Care designs, underwrites, distributes, and manages group health insurance plans in Africa. The startup helps employers provide affordable and convenient health insurance plans for employees with minimal administrative burden.

Furthermore, Eden Care provides covered employees with a mobile app that helps them seamlessly navigate and engage with healthcare providers within its network with minimal waiting times.

Eden Care was founded in 2021 and is backed by the two largest reinsurers in Africa – Zep RE and Africa RE. Additionally the startup raised pre-seed funding in 2022.

African representation reached its peak during the W22 batch, with 24 startups from the continent taking part.

The S22 batch featured only seven African startups, while the W23 batch had just three. Looking at the current S23 batch, which has revealed 91 startups so far, only Eden Care represents an African venture.
