General Motors is investing in lithium-manganese-rich (LMR) battery cells for its electric vehicles, a “risky” but potentially transformative strategy. This new technology uses cheaper and more abundant metals compared to traditional lithium-ion batteries, aiming to reduce EV production costs and make EVs more affordable. GM hopes to gain a competitive edge in the EV market by introducing this technology in 2028.
