The Pentagon introduces Google AI agents to automate non-classified daily tasks
Odaily Planet Daily reports that a senior official from the U.S. Department of Defense stated that Google is deploying AI agents for approximately 3 million U.S. Department of Defense personnel to automate daily tasks. Emil Michael, the Deputy Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering, said that Google’s Gemini AI agents can independently perform tasks after users set them, initially running on non-classified networks. He added that the Department of Defense is discussing with Google about deploying these agents on classified cloud platforms. Google Vice President Jim Kelly stated in a blog post on Tuesday that this new feature will allow civilian and military personnel of the Department of Defense to build AI agents using natural language. Google has previously faced internal criticism for its collaboration with the Department of Defense. In 2018, thousands of employees protested the company’s involvement in Project Maven, a Pentagon initiative to analyze overseas drone warfare video data using AI. The protests ultimately led Google not to renew the project contract. (Jin10)
