Received a call from the "police officer" about virtual currencies? Don't panic, three tricks to help you stay calm and handle it properly~
Recently, many friends have received calls from "Public Security Bureau" asking about trading in the crypto world, which is quite normal to feel nervous. But actually, the more panicked you are, the easier it is to fall into a trap. Staying calm is the most important.
I've refined this set of scripts and ideas to better match our account's tone: clear logic, straightforward tips, a bit of everyday language without being greasy—just use it directly.
**First Trick: Keep Your Bottom Line — Personal Transactions Are Not Illegal**
When the police ask if your transactions are legal, don’t hesitate—answer directly:
“Officer, buying and selling virtual currencies between individuals is not illegal in itself. The key is that the source of funds must be legal. I’m just investing my own spare money.”
One sentence clarifies: I’m not involved in illegal activities, just normal trading/investing. Be sincere but confident; usually, they won’t keep pressing on the “illegal” issue after hearing this.
**Second Trick: Stay Calm and Cooperate, But Don’t Take the Blame Yourself**
If they say there’s a problem with your money or ask you to refund/transfer immediately, don’t act impulsively. Stay calm:
“I fully cooperate with the investigation and want to clarify everything. I’ll send you my transaction records, chat screenshots, and transfer logs now.”
Then, genuinely organize and send proof that shows you’re conducting normal transactions (remember to keep copies). The more proactively you cooperate, the faster the police will clear you of suspicion, and the quicker your frozen cards will be unfrozen. Resisting or transferring money recklessly can make things more complicated.
**Third Trick: Clarify the Nature — Cooperation Doesn’t Mean a Criminal Record**
Many people fear “getting a criminal record,” but it’s important to understand two situations:
- If you are knowingly involved in scams/money laundering: that’s serious, and all related accounts might be shut down.
- If you’re just doing normal transactions and accidentally received “dirty money”: usually only the involved receiving account will be frozen; other accounts are fine.
The difference lies in whether you knew about it and whether you actively cooperate. Sincerely cooperating and providing evidence generally won’t lead to a criminal record; but if you oppose or refuse to explain, the situation could escalate.
One last reminder: when you receive such calls, don’t rush to transfer or operate any funds. Hang up and verify through official channels (call the official 110 or go to the police station). Only continue cooperating after confirming it’s a genuine police officer.
The crypto world is deep, but with a calm mindset and good communication, you can often turn danger into safety. Brothers who have encountered similar situations, share in the comments how you managed to get through it?
