Passenger complaints about loud noise during flights have increased, and United Airlines agrees that it has gone too far. What was once proper etiquette has been ignored by some passengers who have taken to playing music through Bluetooth speakers, making flights uncomfortable for others. To avoid further issues, United Airlines has taken this firm stance on headphone use. Carnival CCL -5.52% ▼ took a similar step to cut down on passenger complaints when the cruise line banned Bluetooth speakers from its ships last year.
As the policy is new, there will likely be some issues as passengers who prefer not to use headphones adjust to the change. However, those who don’t have headphones, or who forgot them, won’t have to worry. United Airlines has announced that it will offer a free pair of headphones to passengers who don’t have their own in an effort to alleviate future conflicts or complaints.
