On March 6th, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning hosted a routine press conference. A Reuters reporter asked about China discussing with Iran the safe passage of ships carrying crude oil and Qatar liquefied natural gas through the Strait of Hormuz. What is the Foreign Ministry’s comment on this?

Mao Ning stated that the Strait of Hormuz and its surrounding waters are important international trade routes for goods and energy. Maintaining security and stability in this region is in the common interest of the international community. China urges all parties to immediately cease military actions, avoid further escalation of tensions, prevent regional instability, and minimize the impact on global economic development.
