Telecoms Insight reports that Vietnam’s telecom company Viettel has established a partnership with Qualcomm (QCOM.US) through a memorandum of understanding to jointly develop smartphones equipped with artificial intelligence (AI). The collaboration aims to advance the production of AI smartphones, utilizing Qualcomm’s AI technology to develop Viettel AI phones, and promote innovation in next-generation AI smartphones in Vietnam through mobile technology cooperation. According to a statement released by Viettel, the agreement requires Qualcomm to provide reference designs and technical support, while Viettel will be responsible for product manufacturing and sales.

This partnership indicates Viettel’s commitment to developing new products, as the company aims to incorporate AI into consumer devices through collaboration with Qualcomm in mobile chip design and AI technology. Viettel has not yet provided a specific timeline for when the AI smartphones will enter production. The collaboration also suggests that Viettel plans to develop new technological capabilities beyond its existing telecommunications services.

Additionally, Viettel will work with Qualcomm to promote 6G network development through its global alliance, while continuing its mobile network testing partnership with Francisco Partners—initiated in 2023. This new initiative supports Viettel’s plans to expand its business scope, including digital products, security solutions, and defense technology, helping the company maintain its position as Vietnam’s largest mobile service provider by user count.
