Andreessen Horowitz's a16z crypto in their latest blog post pointed out that many developers currently use "ZK" as a shorthand for "succinctness" rather than true zero-knowledge privacy, because most zkVMs require a costly "wrapping" process to achieve genuine zero-knowledge properties. The organization also announced the introduction of the NovaBlindFold folding scheme for the open-source Jolt zkVM, enabling the system to generate hidden proofs without revealing input data, thereby supporting privacy applications; after the upgrade, the generated zero-knowledge proofs are only about 3 KB larger than the original non-ZK proofs.
