Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong said in an interview with the David Senra podcast that the SocialFi feature attempted in the Base App last year "did not really work." The app was rebranded and launched in July 2025, aiming to integrate on-chain social, messaging, gaming, and trading features, and introduced the Creator Coin mechanism to tokenize social content, but most of the related tokens failed to maintain their value. Subsequently, the Base team gradually cut back on SocialFi components, removing Farcaster-based social graphs in early 2026 and shifting the product focus to trading and self-custody features.
