The move marks a new step in transforming its energy and mining infrastructure into an artificial intelligence (AI) and high-performance computing (HPC) platform aimed at the South American region.
The initiative includes the launch of BUZZ Cloud, one of the first AI platforms specifically designed for Paraguay. It will be located in Asunción, housed in a Level III data center, and focused on providing advanced computing capacity to universities, research centers, businesses, financial institutions, and healthcare providers.
The initial deployment is scheduled for the first quarter of 2026, starting with an enterprise GPU cluster prepared for training, inference, and intensive data loads, with a scalable design according to demand and capital availability.
From Bitcoin mining to AI infrastructure
HIVE already has a significant operational base in Paraguay, where it developed Level I data centers and electrical substations supported by large-scale access to renewable hydroelectric energy.
The company views Bitcoin mining as a mechanism to monetize surplus or underutilized electricity, turning energy into economic value. Under this logic, each BTC represents a package of energy, and the infrastructure created to produce it can evolve toward more sophisticated uses, such as Level III data centers focused on AI and HPC.
This gradual approach aims to optimize capital use: starting with less investment-intensive infrastructure and progressing, as the ecosystem matures, toward facilities capable of supporting advanced enterprise loads based on GPUs. HIVE considers that this path replicates patterns already observed in Texas, particularly along the San Antonio corridor to the west of the state.
Energy, connectivity, and macro context
HIVE’s long-term strategy relies on two key pillars: reliable power supply and high-capacity dark fiber connectivity, essential for low-latency AI operations and secure data transfer. Paraguay offers an attractive combination of abundant renewable energy, recent macroeconomic stability, and a favorable political environment for foreign investment.
Meanwhile, the expansion occurs in a context of institutional strengthening between Paraguay and the United States. In December 2025, both countries signed a Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA), a common framework in U.S. foreign policy that reinforces bilateral cooperation and could contribute to greater institutional confidence for long-term investments.
Economic impact and regional projection
HIVE expects that investment in AI and HPC infrastructure will drive ripple effects in the local economy, including increased demand for technical talent such as computer engineers, data scientists, and electrical specialists.
Currently, the company’s Level I operations in Paraguay use around 300 MW, with potential for additional expansion in 2026 subject to market conditions and regulatory approvals.
With BUZZ Cloud, HIVE aims to position Paraguay as an emerging node of accelerated computing in South America, combining renewable energy, enterprise data centers, and a vision of scalable digital infrastructure oriented toward the AI economy.
