AI investment narratives face stress testing, tech stocks lead the decline; UAE announces withdrawal from OPEC and OPEC+ starting May 1; gold prices plummet 1.8% breaking the $4,600 mark.
1. VIXY closes down 1.51%, at 27.39.
2. The three major U.S. stock indices close lower. The S&P 500 drops 35.11 points, a 0.49% decrease, to 7,138.80 points. The Dow Jones Industrial Average falls 25.86 points, a 0.05% decrease, to 49,141.93 points. The Nasdaq declines 223.301 points, a 0.90% decrease, to 24,663.799 points.
3. Nvidia drops 1.63%, Meta down 1.07%, Tesla down 0.7%, Amazon down 0.54%, Google A down 0.15%, Microsoft up 1.04%, Apple up 1.16%.
4. Nasdaq Golden Dragon China Index declines 0.49%, at 6,835.31 points. Among popular Chinese concept stocks, Kingsoft Cloud drops 6.4%, GDS Holdings falls 4.8%, China Internet Plus Holdings drops 3.7%, Xiaomi drops 3.3%, XPeng drops 2.6%, BYD(ADR) falls 2.3%, Alibaba and Pinduoduo decline 1.2%.
5. Semiconductor equipment and materials, storage concept stocks lead the declines, with SanDisk falling over 6%, Dell Technologies dropping over 4%, Micron Technology and AMD falling over 3%.
