“In 1995, I wrote the first, or what is close to the first, map, routes, white pages, and yellow pages on the Internet. I wrote everything myself and did not use a web server. I read directly from the port because I couldn’t afford a T1.”
Our first office was in Palo Alto. There was an ISP (Internet Service Provider) downstairs. So I dug a hole in the floor and connected the network cable directly to the ISP. My brother and another co-founder who has since passed away also joined us. At that time, we couldn’t even afford a place to live; the office rent was $500 a month. So we lived in the office and took showers at the YMCA.
