Just realized a lot of people don't know how to change bank details for SRD grants properly, so sharing what I learned. The process is actually pretty different depending on which grant you're on.

If you're getting the R370 SRD grant, the good news is it's all online now. You go to the SASSA SRD portal, enter your ID number, and they send you a secure link via SMS to your registered number. Then you just input your new bank account info and submit. Takes a few days to weeks for the bank to verify everything. The key thing is the account has to be in your name exactly as it shows on your ID - no joint accounts or anything.

But if you're on permanent grants like old age or disability, it's a whole different story. You actually have to go in person to your nearest SASSA office. Yeah, I know, annoying. You need to fill out a Payment Method Change Form, bring your original ID, and proof of your new bank account - like a stamped bank statement from the last three months or an official letter from the bank. They process it and send it to the bank, which takes up to 21 working days. Pro tip: submit before the 15th of the month if you want it to take effect next month, otherwise you wait another cycle.

For changing your cellphone number on SRD, there's a dedicated contact details page where you enter your ID and Application ID, put in your new number, and they send you an OTP to verify. Sounds simple but apparently some people get stuck on this part.

One warning though - there are fake websites out there claiming to help with this stuff. Always use the official SASSA portal or call the helpline at 0800 60 10 11 if you're unsure. Don't risk your personal info on dodgy sites. Has anyone else dealt with this recently?
