Just realized a lot of people are struggling with updating their SASSA details, especially the banking info. Let me break down what actually works because the process is different depending on which grant you're getting.
If you're on the permanent grants like old age or disability, you basically can't do this online no matter what. You have to physically go to your nearest SASSA office and fill out the Payment Method Change Form. They'll ask for your ID (original and copy) and proof of your new bank account - this has to be an official document like a recent bank statement or a letter from the bank. The thing is, the account must be solely in your name, so no joint accounts or anything like that. Once they process it, it takes up to 21 working days for the bank to verify. Pro tip: submit before the 15th of the month if you want it to take effect next month, otherwise you're waiting another cycle.
Now if you're getting the SRD R350 grant, it's way easier because everything is online. You go to the SASSA SRD portal, enter your ID number, and they send you a secure link via SMS. Click the link and update your bank details through the portal. Same rule applies though - the account has to be in your name. Takes a few days to weeks for verification.
For updating your cellphone number, permanent grant holders should call the helpline at 0800 60 10 11 or visit an office. SRD users can update it through the contact portal on the SRD website - you'll need your ID and Application ID, then they send an OTP to verify. One warning though: there are fake websites out there claiming to help with this stuff, so always use the official SASSA links. Don't risk your personal info on sketchy sites.
