just went down this rabbit hole about insanely expensive stuff people actually own and wow, some of it makes zero sense
like there's this preserved dead shark in formaldehyde that sold for $8 million. artist damien hirst made it back in 1991 and a hedge fund billionaire actually paid that much for it. i genuinely don't understand the appeal but apparently that's how art collecting works
but the real kicker? there's a yacht called history supreme that costs $4.5 billion. not the biggest yacht out there—jeff bezos has a bigger one for half that price—but this one is literally covered in gold and platinum. the structural fittings, the deck, the railings, everything. took three years just to design. some malaysian businessman who owns hotel chains supposedly bought it
if you want something more practical there's this 1962 ferrari that went for $48 million at auction, or bezos' beverly hills mansion at $165 million. but honestly the most expensive thing in the world right now is probably that history supreme yacht, and i can't even wrap my head around spending that kind of money on anything
the most expensive thing in the world for most of us is probably a house though lol. what's the wildest luxury purchase you've seen?
