Just realized a lot of people don't know how to properly update their SASSA details, especially the SRD R350 banking details situation. Like, I had to figure this out the hard way, so thought I'd share what I learned.

So here's the thing - if you're getting a permanent grant (old age, disability, child grant), you can't just change your banking details online. You literally have to go to a SASSA office in person. Bring your ID, proof of your new bank account (bank statement not older than three months or a letter from your bank), and they'll fill out a Payment Method Change Form. The whole verification thing takes up to 21 working days, and if you submit after the 15th of the month, you'll have to wait another cycle. Also, the account has to be in YOUR name only - no joint accounts or anything.

But if you're on the SRD R350 grant, it's actually way easier because it's all online. You go to the SASSA SRD portal, enter your ID number, they send you an SMS link, and then you update your SRD R350 banking details through that secure page. Takes a few days to a couple weeks for the bank to verify. The key thing is the account still has to be registered in your name.

For your cellphone number, same deal - permanent grants require you to call 0800 60 10 11 or visit an office, but SRD R350 phone number changes can be done online through their contact portal. You'll need your ID and Application ID, enter your new number, they send an OTP to verify, and you're done.

One warning though - there are fake websites out there trying to get people to update their SRD R350 banking details through them. Always use the official SASSA portal. If the online stuff isn't working, just call the helpline or go to your local office. It's slower but definitely safer than dealing with scams.

Anyone else had issues updating their SASSA banking details or phone number?
