When should you set your trade to break-even point?
Stop-loss should only be moved in the direction of the trade; never move it against the opening position (because that increases risk).
⠀
Your trading system must have a rule for moving trades to the break-even point. For long positions, the stop-loss should be moved above the entry point by a few points (or for short positions, below the entry point by a few points).
⠀
The benefit of doing this is that if the price suddenly moves against our position and returns to the entry point, we can close the trade without loss, and even cover commissions and other trading costs.
⠀
However, there is a downside: if we move the stop-loss too early, we might miss the opportunity for profits to grow.
It’s best to establish a rule for moving to the break-even point and strictly follow it to avoid emotional fluctuations.
