I'm interested in resin 3D printers, but I wonder which one is really the best. Recently, the popularity of 3D printers capable of detailed modeling has been rising, and quite sophisticated models are now available for home use. However, there are quite a few things I want to know before buying, like maintenance and usability.
I looked into some of the best-selling resin 3D printers and compared their actual output speed, finish quality, and ease of operation.
The first one I tried was the ELEGOO "MARS 5 Ultra 9K." This model supports 9K resolution and features an AI camera that automatically detects printing errors. It completed a test model in about 83 minutes, so the wait time is hardly noticeable. It reproduces fine details without losing clarity, and the layer lines are barely visible to the naked eye. It has an intuitive touch panel for easy operation and supports remote monitoring from a computer, making it user-friendly even for beginners. I think it's one of the top recommendations for high-precision 3D printers.
Next, I tested the ELEGOO "Saturn 4 Ultra 16K," which offers even higher 16K resolution. Its dimensional accuracy is about 0.03mm, allowing precise reproduction of complex antennas and detailed logos. The heated tank function ensures stable conditions even in winter, and the AI monitoring feature quickly detects errors. It took about 98 minutes to print, but for those prioritizing high-quality finish, this is an excellent choice among 3D printers.
On the other hand, the ANYCUBIC "Photon Mono 4" is attractive for its affordable price in the 30,000-yen range. Its compact size doesn't take up much space, and it has the fastest output speed at 59 minutes. Its dimensional accuracy is also around 0.03mm, making it practical for repeated prototyping. However, layer lines are quite visible, so post-processing is needed for a completely smooth surface. It also lacks remote monitoring, so you'll need to go to the printer to check on it. If you're looking for a budget-friendly 3D printer, it's a good option, but if you care about surface quality, it might not be enough.
Ultimately, which 3D printer to recommend depends on your usage. If you prioritize precision, the MARS series is ideal; if speed and practicality are more important, the Photon Mono 4 is a good choice; and if you want a balance of both, investing a bit in the Saturn 4 Ultra 16K makes sense. Personally, I think for beginners, the MARS series with monitoring features and ease of use is the safest choice.
