Pi Day 2026 marks the seventh official anniversary of the Pi Network, reflecting the ecosystem's years of dedicated efforts in innovation and community building.
From the beginning, Pi's development has followed its established long-term vision and strategy: to build an inclusive, utility-focused, and widely-adopted cryptocurrency. As the network continues to advance in this direction, "Pi Day" has become an opportunity to introduce new features that strengthen the ecosystem's infrastructure while enabling more people to participate, giving pioneers and developers more ways to contribute to the ecosystem.
Today, Pi is launching multiple new features and products designed to enhance the utility of the entire Pi ecosystem and increase user engagement. These updates include the release of the Pi Launchpad MVP version on the testnet; additionally, according to the recently released PiRC initiative, pioneer users can learn about and experience the practical applications of this new feature. Furthermore, upgrades to nodes and protocols are progressing steadily. Additionally, there are reward mechanisms related to KYC verification, as well as new features such as enabling mainnet payment functionality in the Pi App Studio, further enhancing system utility. These new features also include new external connectivity methods, enabling more people to use Pi. Additionally, there is a challenge activity centered on practical functionality, designed to incentivize pioneer users to innovate and explore within the Pi ecosystem.
The following sections will provide detailed information about each update and how they contribute to improving the utility of the Pi ecosystem and user engagement.
Pi Launchpad Operations on Testnet
Upon the first anniversary of the Open Network, the Pi Team improved the ecosystem token design on the mainnet. Given the importance of ecosystem tokens in the Pi ecosystem, and that Pi Launchpad is the primary channel for obtaining quality ecosystem tokens aligned with Pi's vision, the Pi Team released a consultation draft seeking community feedback.
Now, the initial version of Pi Launchpad, developed based on the mechanism described in "Design 1" in PiRC, has been released as a Pi application on the testnet, using test tokens. Since Pi Launchpad introduces many novel concepts to users and its operation differs from traditional token issuance methods in the Web3 space, it will first be tested on the testnet so that community members can understand its operational processes before the mainnet launch. This is also a learning opportunity for users to understand this new issuance mechanism and how various DeFi-related processes work, especially for those who haven't yet reviewed the relevant documentation on GitHub. Data and feedback collected during this period will help us further refine the product before the mainnet version is released. Users can access the Pi Launchpad application through the Pi Browser.
As mentioned in the "Open Network Anniversary Celebration," ecosystem tokens issued by Pi Launchpad are primarily intended to attract users and enhance product utility, rather than primarily to raise funds. Under this model, projects issue tokens to attract users to use their applications and integrate these tokens directly into various product features——such as implementing in-app access management, payment functionality, reward mechanisms, and governance processes. Revenue that Pi receives from token issuance is not retained by the issuing projects but is instead incorporated into the ecosystem token liquidity pool, establishing a solid liquidity foundation for the ecosystem from the outset.
Among various projects, ecosystem tokens have become an effective means of attracting real users, collecting feedback, validating product features, and driving continuous product improvement. Traditionally, without Web3 tools like tokens, user acquisition costs would be extremely high, and achieving product "cold starts" would be particularly challenging for startups. The Pi ecosystem provides exactly this kind of solution: it helps businesses that want to bring their innovative products to a global user base achieve this goal. This user base includes both cryptocurrency-savvy users and the general public. Additionally, most of these users are identity-verified. By involving users in the product development process, project teams can test various product features and characteristics early, ensuring the product meets actual needs, thereby more effectively driving product development.
