🛢 Gulf Cooperation Countries sharply cut oil production
Saudi Arabia, Iraq, the UAE, and Kuwait reduced oil output by approximately 6.7 million barrels per day amid the blockage of the Strait of Hormuz.
📉 Scale of reduction
— about 6% of global oil supply
— roughly one-third of the total production of these countries
The reason is serious logistical restrictions and risks to tanker shipping in the Persian Gulf.
Such supply reductions put additional pressure on the global energy market and drive up oil prices.
Opinion:
A reduction of nearly 7 million barrels per day is no longer just a geopolitical risk premium but a potential structural shock to the energy market. If the situation persists, oil prices could stabilize at significantly higher levels.
