Darkside of the Moon: China's Aspiration to Set Global Standards in Artificial Intelligence
In recent years, Chinese tech company leaders have been rethinking their global strategies. Yang Zhilin, founder and CEO of The Dark Side of the Moon—known for its Kimi model—has expressed an ambitious vision that goes beyond mere technological innovation. In his recent public statements, Zhilin conveyed a clear stance: technology developed in China should not only be user-friendly but also actively participate in shaping international industry standards.
Chinese models as benchmarks in industrial testing
Yang Zhilin’s reflection is based on a concrete achievement. Multiple open-source solutions created in China have already been adopted as benchmarks in global industry evaluation protocols. This recognition marks a paradigm shift: Eastern technology no longer just consumes international standards but also contributes to their definition. For Darkside and similar projects, this means a shared responsibility to ensure these models maintain the quality and reliability expected worldwide.
Security should not hinder progress
Regarding public concerns about the inherent risks of developing AI systems, Zhilin took a balanced yet firm position. He argued that this technology could become a vital tool for humanity to address its most critical challenges: from conquering diseases like cancer to solving the global energy crisis and exploring space. While acknowledging that risks exist, he maintains that abandoning research would be equivalent to giving up on the maximum potential of our civilization. This reasoning reflects the Chinese tech ecosystem’s confidence that responsible innovation can coexist with risk management measures.
The roadmap to K100
With this future vision, the Darkside team has designed an ambitious development plan: the sequential launch of the K series, starting with K4 and K5, progressing gradually to K100 over a span of ten to twenty years. This schedule is not merely speculative but a commitment to continuous and iterative improvement of their technological capabilities. Each iteration represents not only technical advances but also a stronger participation in defining what constitutes a world-class artificial intelligence standard.
