Small retail investors update their share of Bitcoin holdings, indicating signs of a change in market structure
There is a notable movement in the Bitcoin market. Small investors (holding approximately 1 to 100 BTC) are increasing their share of Bitcoin holdings to the highest level since mid-2024. This is not just a fluctuation in numbers but a significant signal indicating a major change in the composition of market participants.
Increase in Small Holders: Actual Shift in Positioning
According to data tracking platform NS3.AI, the share of Bitcoin held by small investors is steadily expanding. In response, whale investors holding between 10 BTC and 10,000 BTC are gradually reducing their positions. This contrasting movement indicates that a real fund transfer is happening within the market.
At the same time, we see that buying pressure from small investors is strengthening, while some whale investors are taking profits and selling. This behavior is a natural profit-taking process amid Bitcoin’s high price levels.
Selling Flows from Whales: Reshaping Market Structure
The reduction in share among medium to large holders (whale category) suggests that the market is becoming more decentralized. This is also a sign of healthy market maturation.
Analysts point out that for Bitcoin’s upward trend to continue, support from both new small investors and existing whale investors is essential. If large holders lose their continued buying interest, the momentum of price increases could slow down. Therefore, a multi-layered participation of market players is critically important.
Expansion of Small Entry and Market Stability: Future Outlook
The increasing participation of small investors promotes market democratization but may also influence price volatility patterns. As more small holders enter the market, broader participation across different segments is achieved.
Currently, the overall circulation rate of Bitcoin has reached 95.22%, and the concentration among the top 10 addresses has decreased to 6.00%, indicating a move toward greater decentralization. These indicators provide strong evidence of the rise of small investors.
As the market matures, the role of small holders will become increasingly vital. Maintaining stable demand from this segment could be key to sustained price strength in the future.
