In 2025, China again becomes Germany's largest trading partner

The Federal Statistical Office of Germany released data on the 6th showing that Germany’s trade volume with China will reach €253 billion in 2025, an increase of approximately 2.7% from €246.3 billion in the previous year. The agency stated that China will once again become Germany’s largest trading partner in 2025. The data shows that in 2025, Germany’s imports from China will amount to €171.2 billion, and exports to China will be €81.8 billion. During the same period, Germany’s trade volume with the United States will be €241.6 billion, a decrease of about 4.4% from the previous year. Due to the significant impact of U.S. tariff policies, Germany’s exports to the U.S. decreased by 9.3% to €146.9 billion, while imports from the U.S. increased by 2.9% to €94.7 billion. Overall, in 2025, Germany’s total exports will grow by 1% to €1.5696 trillion, total imports will increase by 4.4% to €1.3669 trillion, and the trade surplus will decrease by 15.9% to €202.8 billion. The German Wholesale and Foreign Trade Association stated on the same day that Germany’s exports continue to face structural weaknesses. Major challenges include U.S. protectionist tariffs, ongoing geopolitical tensions, and weak global demand. According to data from the Federal Statistical Office, from 2016 to 2023, China has maintained its position as Germany’s largest trading partner for eight consecutive years.
