Ava Max finds her voice: from submission to critics to creative independence
New album Don’t Click Play has become for Ava Max not just a musical project, but a symbol of rethinking her creative path. After parting ways with longtime co-writers Cirkut and Madison Love, the singer took a bold step — creating an album entirely on her own, proving to herself and others that her success depends primarily on her own talent.
A Turning Point in Ava Max’s Career
Throughout last year, Ava Max gradually prepared her audience for upcoming changes, releasing individual tracks after significant shifts in her creative circle. The new project emerged on the wave of breaking away from those who had shaped her sound for many years. But this separation was necessary for the singer to rediscover herself.
“I had time to reboot and understand what I really wanted,” Max shared with journalists at the end of last year. The album encompasses an unexpected variety: slow ballads, classic pop, rock elements, and even country influences — all things her fans had never heard from her before.
The Path to Independence
Working with a new team of producers Pink Slip and Inverness, the singer maintained her sense of style. The result was unique: Ava Max’s sound evolved but remained recognizable. “I created this album to prove to myself and others that I can write a quality pop album without the help of my former partners,” she explained her decision.
Critics and skeptics predicted failure, claiming that without her old co-writers she wouldn’t be able to repeat the success of tracks like Sweet but Psycho. But Max chose a different path — to listen to herself, not the crowd.
From Obedience to Rebellion
The main realization Ava Max came to during the work on Don’t Click Play was understanding that external voices only hinder creativity. “I stopped letting people dictate my tastes. They tried to convince me what I should like, but I know what I want,” she said, describing her new approach to artistry.
The singer returned to a moment in her career when she relied solely on intuition and creative instincts. This led her to Sweet but Psycho once — and now she believes that the same inner compass will lead her to new successes.
Complete Liberation
“I’m no longer afraid. It no longer matters what people think of me. I let my hair down,” Max vividly described her psychological state at this stage. It’s not just a phrase — it’s a manifesto of a person who has decided to stop pleasing everyone and create solely for herself.
Professional growth often requires such a break from the past. Ava Max has gone through the necessary test and emerged from it more confident in her own strength.
What’s Next
The tour in support of the album is already in the planning stage. After the delay that occurred earlier, the singer is now ready to take the stage and present her new tracks to the audience. This journey promises to be even more honest and authentic than all of Ava Max’s previous projects.
