Unlike traditional centralized storage models that rely on a single server, Walrus distributes data across multiple nodes in the network, helping to reduce the risk of data loss and enhance data recovery capabilities. Users only need to upload data once; the system will automatically distribute and store it across multiple nodes, thereby optimizing long-term costs.
Walrus's operational model consists of 6 main components. End User is the person uploading data to the network. Client acts as an intermediary connecting users to the system. Publisher receives and records data. Storage Node directly stores data and must stake WAL tokens to operate. Aggregator consolidates data from various nodes to increase retrieval speed. The CDN and Cache layers temporarily store popular data, reducing latency during access.
Walrus stands out with two major advantages: cost savings and high reliability. Thanks to the resource-sharing model, storage costs are significantly reduced compared to traditional solutions. Especially, even if up to 2/3 of the nodes encounter issues, the system can still fully recover data, ensuring integrity and continuous availability. $WAL
