Zuckerberg to Make Major Changes to the Metaverse: Meta Plans to Cut Budget by 30% and Begin Layoffs Next Year

[Chain News] Zuckerberg is about to make major cuts to the metaverse.

Reports say Meta is preparing to significantly scale back its metaverse-related businesses, with budget cuts of up to 30%. As early as January next year, related teams will begin layoffs. This adjustment mainly targets the Meta Horizon Worlds virtual world platform, as well as the Quest series of VR headsets.

What will they do with the money saved? Go all-in on AI glasses and wearable devices—these new directions.

To be honest, it’s understandable. Reality Labs has been burning cash since 2021 and has already lost over $70 billion. That number is pretty scary. Although Zuckerberg still claims to be optimistic about the long-term prospects of the virtual world, the market and investors clearly don’t have that much patience.

Meta’s strategy is now very clear—they’re shifting their strategic focus toward AI and hardware products. The metaverse story is being put on hold for now, while they focus on projects that can make money or at least show commercial potential.

This move is also a demonstration of a tech giant facing reality. Ambitions are grand, but when the burn rate is too fast and market feedback can’t keep up, cutting losses in time may be the right choice.

Ha, finally willing to make some cuts. I knew the whole metaverse thing would have to admit defeat sooner or later. Cutting losses by 30%? Still too gentle. Time for Meta to wake up from its dream. All that money thrown in really went down the drain. Should have gone all in on AI, but now it's too late for regrets. Are they still selling VR headsets? I thought they would have axed them long ago.

Haha, finally willing to make cuts. The way they’re burning money is just absurd. --- Metaverse dream shattered, going all in on AI is the real deal. --- Laying off 30%? This is really going to trigger a wave of unemployment, and I feel like it's not just Meta. --- Are they cutting back on Quest headsets too? There goes my VR dream. --- What are they going to all in on with the savings? Feels like another new pitfall. --- Should have done this long ago. Who wants to burn money on a virtual world anyway? --- Looks like Zuck has faced reality. The metaverse track isn’t as promising as everyone thought. --- Layoffs starting in January next year, it must be tough for those employees. --- But Meta’s pivot is pretty quick, at least smarter than some other projects. --- Is Meta on the way out? Or just getting started? --- All in again, this guy just loves to go all in. Last time it was all in on the metaverse.

I've said long ago that the metaverse is a hot potato, and now they finally can't hold on anymore, haha. You can't miss this opportunity, bro. This pullback is the real chance to get in. I saw through it three years ago. While others are cutting their losses, I'm increasing my position—simple and straightforward, that's it. What does this mean? The tide is turning, so we need to adjust our thinking and keep up with the pace. Zuck is truly textbook-level at trial and error—he's saved us a lot of tuition fees.

Should have cut it long ago. After burning money for so many years, still no one is using it. --- Metaverse dream shattered, all in on AI—has Zuckerberg really woken up? --- Haha, I always said the metaverse was a false proposition, now they've finally realized it. --- Thirty percent of the budget? I think they should just cut it to zero. Who's really using this thing anyway? --- Shifting to AI is wise, but all that money burned before was for nothing. Investors must be heartbroken. --- Metaverse really has become a Web3 joke. What happened to those grand visions from before? --- Layoffs are coming, and the VR circle is in for another shake-up. But they deserve it. --- Money is shifting to AI. Looks like FB is being forced to follow the trend too. --- From dream to reality this fast—Meta's story needs to be rewritten.

If I had known it would turn out like this, the whole metaverse thing never really produced anything. Going all in on AI is way better. --- Zuck just stabbed the metaverse in the back. This is what you call the ebb and flow of market sentiment. --- Cutting the budget by 30%? How much do you have to lose to go this hard... On-chain analysis had already shown bearish signals. --- Oh my god, even VR headsets are getting hit. What does this round of adjustments mean? It means the big companies are finally facing reality. --- So what are those projects hyping the metaverse concept thinking now? Retail investors really need to change their mentality. --- The bottom-building phase is here, but is this really the bottom this time? Feels like we still have to go lower. --- Wait, what's the logic behind this All in AI move? Are we going to mess with the tech roadmap all over again?
