Today, I was chatting with a friend and mentioned that recently Sei Chain protocol Yei Finance was affected by the de-pegging of external stablecoins, which triggered a security incident. The team promptly paused the relevant markets and initiated an emergency process to protect users and system stability. It is said that a solution was provided within a day, and the next day, full compensation was directly issued. Honestly, in today's crypto world, this shows real strength and a broad vision.
I looked into it further and found that the de-pegging of Stream Finance's XUSD by 23% triggered a series of subsequent events, not a vulnerability in the Yei protocol itself.
In fact, the entire codebase of the Yei protocol has undergone rigorous testing and was audited by the well-known auditing firm Zellic. I also checked Yei's documentation, which shows that PeckShield and independent auditor billh participated in auditing the Yei DEX module, while other modules like YeiBridge were mainly audited by billh.
Various project teams are also learning from this, focusing on key points for handling unexpected security incidents 👇
🔵 Rapid response: Immediately pause the protocol when anomalies occur, then issue an announcement, and clarify the handling method and timetable within 24 hours.
🟤 Fulfilling promises: Directly compensate affected users in full, let results speak, and avoid just talking without action.
🟢 Community first: Even under external shocks, prioritize user asset safety and experience, embodying the community-first principle.
The proper handling of the Yei security incident reminds me of Wormhole back in the day, which also provided full compensation after a major shock (losing $320 million in 2022, with the team fully compensating users). Later, through more open incentives and product iterations, it regained growth. Yei is also applying the same professionalism and resilience, turning a stress test into stronger systems and trust. Cross-chain liquidity is a challenging path, but the future is bright! Keep going, Yei Finance.
