A scandal in Manhattan reveals that Paul Campo — former financial chief of the DEA — is accused of using his own crime-fighting skills to participate in money laundering. According to court documents, Campo once managed the DEA’s financial intelligence program, but after leaving the agency, he collaborated with Robert Sensi to join a cryptocurrency-based money laundering network.
The two approached an individual believed to be a representative of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, but in reality, this person was a U.S. undercover agent. They are accused of discussing converting cash into cryptocurrency to legitimize it, arranging payments for 220 kg of cocaine, and discussing the purchase of weapons, even mentioning plans to carry out a drone attack with explosives.
Authorities state that approximately $750,000 was laundered through cryptocurrency channels. Campo now faces charges of aiding organized crime, drug conspiracy, narco-terrorism, and money laundering. The case is still ongoing.
