Has China called for the UN Security Council to convene again or pursue other forms of multilateral efforts regarding the Iran situation? Ministry of Foreign Affairs responds
Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning hosted the routine press conference on March 2. During the session, a foreign journalist asked about the Iran situation: “Regarding China’s call for a ceasefire and an end to the fighting, should the United Nations play a role in this? Is China calling for another UN Security Council meeting or other forms of multilateral efforts?” Mao Ning responded that China and Russia have already pushed for an emergency UN Security Council meeting to discuss the current situation. We support the UN Security Council continuing to play a role, and we also hope that all relevant parties can immediately cease military actions to prevent the escalation of the situation.
