Anthropic has promised to challenge the U.S. Department of Defense's decision to blacklist the company, which claims that Anthropic refused to lift all restrictions on the military use of its model Claude. According to Odaily, the company expressed deep regret over the escalating dispute. This move is a rare instance of a company openly challenging the Trump administration since U.S. President Donald Trump returned to the White House.

Earlier on Friday, Trump and Defense Secretary Hegseth threatened to sever Anthropic's ties with numerous clients through a 'supply chain risk' designation, a measure traditionally reserved for 'foreign adversaries.' Anthropic stated, 'No matter how the 'War Department' intimidates or punishes, it will not change our stance on mass surveillance or fully automated weapons.' The company intends to legally contest any supply chain risk designation.
