People who've worked with complex DeFi applications know that whenever privacy computation is involved, finance departments start getting headaches. What's the problem? The privacy layer and execution layer are usually separated, requiring operations teams to maintain multiple token inventories to handle gas fees across different environments—currency exchanges, reconciliation, hidden losses from exchange rate fluctuations, a whole pile of complications.
However, my recent work on Dusk Network uncovered another possibility. This project's architecture design is quite distinctive—split into the DuskDS layer responsible for privacy and consensus, and the DuskEVM layer compatible with Ethereum. But the clever part is: whether you're calling zero-knowledge proof privacy functions at the base layer or running regular smart contracts on the EVM layer, you only need one asset to pay for gas—the DUSK token.
This seemingly simple unified design actually eliminates massive friction from cross-layer fund transfers. Finance personnel no longer need to handle complex cross-chain currency exchange records. For business operations with frequent daily interactions, cost accounting suddenly becomes clear and transparent, and the pressure of internal reconciliation is greatly reduced. This value capture mechanism design philosophy might be worth reference for other projects as well.
