What is Futures Bonus?

The futures bonus is a risk-free virtual asset that can be used as margin, to offset trading losses, trading fees, and funding fees. If a futures account contains both personal funds and a bonus, personal funds will be used first to cover trading fees and funding fees. If personal funds are insufficient, the bonus will be used for payment. Gate's futures bonus is designed to allow users to experience the features of futures products in live trading without bearing actual risk.

Usage Restrictions for the Futures Bonus

Deduction Rules

  • When there is only a futures bonus in the futures account, the bonus can be used directly as a trading principal.
  • If there are also personal funds in the account, the bonus can only be used to offset losses from reducing positions.
  • Profits obtained from trading with the bonus can be transferred out.

Validity and Restrictions

  • The futures bonus has an expiration date. Unused bonuses will become invalid after the expiration.
  • The spot account assets should be at least 0.0001 BTC to be eligible for claiming the futures bonus.
  • The bonus portion cannot be transferred out.
  • Sub-accounts cannot participate in bonus activities.

Usage Rules for the Futures Bonus Under Different Position Modes

1. Cross margin mode

  • When there are no personal funds in the account, the futures bonus can be used entirely as margin and to offset trading losses.
  • When there are personal funds in the account, the futures bonus can only be used to offset losses, with personal funds being used as margin first.

2. Isolated margin mode

  • When there are no personal funds in the account, the futures bonus can be used entirely as margin for a specific position and to offset trading losses for that position.
  • When there are personal funds in the account, the futures bonus can only be used to offset losses for that position, with personal funds used for margin.

3. One-way mode

  • When there are no personal funds in the account, the futures bonus can be used independently as margin for positions in one-way mode and to offset losses.
  • When there are personal funds in the account, the futures bonus can only be used to offset losses and cannot be mixed with personal funds for margin.

4. Hedge mode

  • When there are no personal funds in the account, the futures bonus can be used separately for long and short positions.
  • When there are personal funds in the account: The futures bonus is used first for the position with the larger loss and cannot be mixed with personal funds.

5.Time Limits

  • Time Limit: The futures bonus is typically valid for 7 days; after expiration, it will automatically become invalid and cannot be used again.

Usage Scenarios

Example 1: User A has 50 USDT in his account and 100 USDT in futures bonus. After a first trade resulting in an 80 USDT loss, the bonus will be used to offset the loss, leaving 20 USDT in futures bonus. If the next trade results in a 20 USDT profit, the futures bonus remains unchanged, the personal funds increase to 70 USDT, and the profit can be transferred out.

Example 2: User B receives 5 USDT futures bonus and earns 10 USDT in profit from trading. If subsequent trading results in a 18 USDT loss, the actual withdrawable amount will be 5 + 10 - 18 = -3 USDT.

Futures Bonus in Transaction History

If the Transaction History shows two identical futures bonus deductions, this is typically because the system needs to record that the deduction was made using the bonus. The system does not deduct the bonus twice. If you have any concerns, please contact customer support for verification.

About Destruction

Manual destruction of pending futures bonus: If you manually destroy a pending futures bonus, the entire value of that futures bonus will be destroyed.

1

Destruction Logic for Expired Futures Bonus

  • Automatic Destruction Upon Expiration: All expired futures bonus will be automatically destroyed. You do not need to take any additional actions, as the system will handle the process based on the remaining balance of the futures bonus and market conditions.
  • Combining Expiration with Other Destruction Conditions: When multiple futures bonus expire simultaneously, the following logic will apply:
    • Check the relationship between the "futures bonus balance" and the "total value of all activated bonus".
    • If the futures bonus balance is greater than the total value of activated bonus: All pending futures bonus will be destroyed at full value.
    • If the total value of activated bonus is greater than the futures bonus balance: The loss amount = Total value of activated bonus - Futures bonus balance.
      • If the amount to be destroyed is greater than 0: All pending futures bonus will be destroyed at full value. Destruction will follow this order: by expiration date from earliest to latest > by face value from highest to lowest > randomly.
      • If the amount to be destroyed is not greater than 0: All pending futures bonus will be fully marked as consumed.

Notice

  1. Impact on open positions: If your open positions are occupying the futures bonus, the unoccupied portion will be destroyed first. For the portion of the futures bonus that is occupied, the system will periodically retry destruction until you close the position, at which point the destruction will succeed.
  2. Gate reserves the final right to interpret the futures bonus.
  3. The price fluctuations of digital assets may affect the value of investments, and you should be responsible for your own investment decisions. Futures trading involves market risk and price volatility, which may result in the liquidation of the entire margin. Please assess the risks before trading and consult a professional advisor if necessary.
